Vendor Biography

Barinaga Ranch began in 2009 as a sheep-dairy, and we made a Basque-style sheep cheese for 8 years. In 2017 I retired from cheesemaking and began to transition my flock from East Friesian dairy sheep to fiber breeds. Our East Friesian fleeces are appreciated by a local felt artist who buys almost all of our East Friesian wool for felting. We have crossed our East Friesian ewes with Corriedale and Romney rams and find that the crossbred sheep have lovely fleeces for hand-spinning. We also are growing our purebred Romney and Corriedale flocks. We have white and recessive-colored Romneys and white and black Corriedales. Hand spinners have given our Romney and Corriedale wool high marks for its quality and softness. All of our fiber sheep wear coats to keep their fleeces clean and free of vegetable matter. Please note: there was a problem with the shipping settings on our store-page which may have frustrated attempts to make purchases. It is fixed now! Please try again and my apologies!
